The Foundry
The Foundry is our systematic pipeline for transforming research insights into production systems. It ensures that theory meets practice and that successful systems can scale without distorting research incentives.
The Pipeline
Insight
A research finding or theoretical breakthrough that suggests practical application. Could emerge from any research direction or from unexpected connections between domains.
Formal Model
Translation of insight into rigorous formalism. We specify assumptions, boundary conditions, and expected behaviors. Use type theory, proof assistants, and formal verification where applicable.
Validation
Testing the model through simulation, controlled experiments, and theoretical analysis. Identify failure modes, edge cases, and limitations. Document what doesn't work as thoroughly as what does.
Prototype
Implementation of a working system. Focus on correctness and clarity over optimization. The prototype validates that the formal model can be realized and reveals practical constraints missed in theory.
Spin-off
When a system reaches maturity—robust, validated, and ready for scale—we spin it off as an independent venture. The venture team focuses on product development while maintaining connection to research foundations.
Principles
Non-linear Flow
The pipeline is not strictly linear. Validation often reveals gaps in the formal model. Prototype implementation uncovers assumptions missed in theory. We iterate between stages as needed.
Failure is Progress
Not every insight leads to a working system. Many prototypes reveal fundamental limitations. We document these outcomes as rigorously as successes.
Independence at Scale
Ventures operate independently once spun off. They have their own teams, roadmaps, and incentives. This separation prevents successful systems from dominating research direction while maintaining connection to theoretical foundations.
