Lab Note: High-Fidelity Simulation Benchmarks
Status: Ongoing Date: January 2026
Overview
Testing Hesva simulation engine across various physics scenarios to establish accuracy-performance baselines. Goal is to identify which fidelity tradeoffs are acceptable for research applications.
Test Scenarios
Rigid Body Dynamics
- Accuracy: 99.7% match with analytical solutions
- Performance: 10,000 bodies at 60Hz on single GPU
Fluid Dynamics
- Accuracy: Acceptable for macro-scale phenomena
- Performance: 1000x faster than real-time for low-Reynolds flows
- Limitation: Turbulence modeling remains approximate
Multi-Agent Interactions
- Accuracy: Good agreement with empirical data for up to 1000 agents
- Performance: Scales linearly to 100,000 agents
- Limitation: Behavioral complexity limited by computational budget
Key Finding
Sweet spot exists at ~1000x real-time speed with 95% accuracy for most research applications. Higher fidelity available but rarely needed.
Next Steps
Characterize accuracy degradation patterns. Develop adaptive fidelity selection based on research needs.
